Our Patients Say...

Personal stories of symptoms, treatment and recovery under the care of Nick and his team.

Symptom/Condition: Recurrent Inguinal Hernias

I saw Mr Boyle having had two failed inguinal hernia repair attempts, on both left and right side. As a result of these previous operations, I was advised that a third repair of both would not be easy, as the hernias were now larger and there was considerable scar tissue. Nevertheless, Mr Boyle agreed to undertake both repairs.

The first operation on the left side was a complete success, and although uncomfortable there was little pain (managed with analgesics).

A year later, and with a high degree of confidence on my part, Mr Boyle carried out the repair on the right side. So far, it could not be a better outcome. I did not suffer any pain (took analgesics for two days only) and, three weeks later, the wound was healed with the deeper swelling almost gone (although, I still require some time before I can resume tennis!). I’m very happy with both the outcomes.

Epigastric Hernia

Even on my first meeting with Mr. Boyle, I felt confident that I could expect excellent surgery.

His pre-op and post-op visit to my room in the Nuffield felt reassuring.

As for the actual wound, it healed in record time, about 2 weeks, after which I felt confident enough to shower.

Umbilical Hernia

Following my recent hernia repair, I wish to express my thanks and appreciation to you and your team for the care I received prior to, during and following my procedure.

In recent times most of us have become used to self-funding the care of our ears, eyes and teeth, but now, for the first time, we are having to look to the private sector for elective surgery and even semi-elective surgery.

I am happy to place on record that my first foray into the world of private health has been a paradigm of first class healthcare.

Following a preliminary visit to Dr. Google, I contacted your office to make an appointment for a consultation. From the first moment the whole experience was positive and extremely efficient. Your excellent secretary Kathryn, made an appointment that suited me and from then on I was provided with all the help and advice a new boy could wish for.

I arrived at the hospital for my operation at lunchtime and was greeted at reception by name; in no time at all I was in my room and being prepared for surgery. I still find it difficult to believe that, as soon as I felt able, I was being prepared for discharge; you and your brilliant Anaesthetist were checking all had gone well and the Pharmacist was handing my medication for discharge to me.

An hour or so later I was relaxing at home and enjoying a light supper.

The following morning, I was up and preparing my own breakfast and at no time did I experience any pain or discomfort and have not done so since. Within a couple of days I was completely back to normal and even kept having to be reminded that I’d just had surgery.

Six weeks on and the site of my operation is difficult to spot; just a very thin red line: no scar tissue visible.

Once again, thank you, and please pass on my thanks to your team and all the nursing staff who helped make the experience as stress free as possible.

Inguinal Hernia

I developed an inguinal hernia on my left side some time ago. I jumped through all the NHS hoops but in the end the wait was far too long so I decided to go to the Spire where I have been cared for in the past

Mr Boyle saw me and agreed to sort me out.  I was well looked after on my overnight stay and Mr Boyle operated late in May 2023.

I am very pleased that the surgery was straight forward and Mr Boyle obviously did a good job on me, for which I am very grateful.

I am pleased to recommend the Spire hospital and Mr Boyle to anyone considering their care
